30 Days - Day 5: Show & Tell

The very first Sunday we went to church after our move here to Kansas, I met a girl named Kelli. I instantly knew we were "kindred spirits" as Anne would say in "Anne of Green Gables."

Kelli and I became fast and furious friends. We did so much together. We went out, stayed in and watched movies, travelled together with our husbands, and just had a great time.

Kelli was the youngest of 5 children in her family. She was a surprise baby to her parents who were in their 40's when they had her. By the time I met her, her parents were in their early 70's. Bill and Scottye were such sweet people. In fact, her mother felt somewhat like a grandmother to me. 2 years or so after I met Kelli, her father quickly passed away. Without her husband, Scottye lost her will to live and passed away not long after her husband. I went over to visit Kelli shortly after her mother's death and she asked me if I'd like to have this Lady's Head planter that was her mother's. Now I had secretly admired these (Scottye had 2) and was so touched that Kelli would pass on to me this special remembrance of her mother.

For a couple years I kept it in my office at church to protect it from the young children I still had at home. Now that they're older, I have it sitting on a shelf in my bedroom where I can see it each day. It is so special to me. She's missing her little pearl earrings but I don't care. She's just a great little keepsake.

I haven't talked to Kelli now for 2 years. She and her husband have since divorced and she's started a new life in another state. I miss her and our friendship. I'm thankful for the season of our friendship and thankful to have this little reminder.

What a neat keepsake! Maybe Kelli will start blogging and you can keep in touch that way! You never know! I recently reconnected with a childhood friend whom I hadn't heard from in 20 years!

That is a cool gift to be given. I hope that you will be able see your friend again someday.

The planter head would be a pretty way to display jewelry.

That is cool. So richly painted...perfect in every way. Ya, I would keep that away form harm too. It's a treasure.

Mine is posted this week, it's a Valentine Wreath that I made this week.

Hope you can drop by sometime.

I used to clean for an elderly lady that had about 15 of these! When she passed away I received a clear glass candy dish with a swan lid. I remember cringing whenever I dusted these ladies because I knew how old they were! What a neat way to remember someone special!

That planter is amazing! I would definitely have to keep it up on a high shelf, along with everything else I don't want the kids into or breaking. I have never seen planters like that, but I will be keeping my eyes open at the thrift shops now.
