Show & Tell

While going through some patterns at my aunt's home one day, I came across this pattern for a doll made out of a pillowcase. I instantly fell in love with the simplistic beauty of it. I needed a gift for a baby shower and decided to make a keepsake gift for the mother-to-be. It turned out beautiful!

After seeing the finished doll, my aunt shared with me that she had some pillowcases that were my grandmother's and her intention was to make these dolls out of them and present them to my grandma's 2 daughter-in-laws, my sister and myself (the only 2 granddaughters) and also 1 for my aunt.

So that Christmas, about 8 years ago, I made 5 of these dolls. I actually enjoyed making them and it was so much fun presenting them to our family members.

That's it for my Show & Tell today. To read more stories, you can visit Kelli over at No Place Like Home.

WOW! those are beautiful! The best part was that you used the old pillowcases! Recently I was back home in St Louis and found some of my Mother-in-law's hankies in a drawer. (She passed away Aug of 2006). There was one that was hand tatted on the deges and a beautiful scripted "K" for Kathleen in the center. Her mother had made it for her and gave it to her for her birthday a long time ago. She had never used it.

I bought it home so that our youngest daughter Laura who shares my MIL's middle name of "Louise" could carry it this November on her Wedding Day! She'll have her grandmother's hankie which was made by her Great Grandmother! She LOVED the idea and I have it stored away for now!

Thanks for sharing your pillow dolls, they're simply beautiful!

Wow you are awesome! I had 2 kits of those dolls, and had the intention of making them for my neices for Christmas one year. Ha! I spent all day sewing on one, before getting stuck on the bodice of the dress. I stopped there and never started em again. They are so beautiful!

Those are so adorable! Are they difficult to make? I'd love to try my hand at one for each of my girls - or perhaps I could just order 3 from you!
